Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

muddyghost saidI am unable to hear any sounds that people play through gag, i have my sounds turned up, and everything. I had gag installed, and it worked for a while, and then one day it just stopped making the noises, and sometimes, not all the times, there would be no emote after i use a valid command. if anyone could help, that would be great

Kassaine saidIs there any way to make it to stop sound in the middle of one playing, would be really nice, especially with some of them being long

Bleric saidUnfortunately no :(
It's one of the things I'm working on right now, and it's not easy. Basically I'll have to write an external script which figures out the length of each mp3 and wav and inserts that into the gag_pkg file. If any of you know how to do that, let me know!

Lochdanan saidIs it possible to use a script or some way to just do a soft reset of the sound engine so that it stops the sound?

holypercival saidI've noticed two things about this issue. First being that before 2.4 hit, the command /stopit did not play an audio file, but rather stopped and reset all sound in the game (Not sure if this was intentional or maybe just a bug in the mod). Whatever caused it, after the patch, returned an error msg regarding the soundengine. When the mod was updated the /stopit command had an audio file play with it and no longer reset the sound engine. Maybe this might be a good place to start looking? I'm not sure, I haven't made any mods yet.
My other thing I noticed, for anyone not already aware of this, is when those longer files are playing, if you simply open the menu, sound and voice, and then under the audio hardware drop down box, select "Default Sound" and then back to whichever it was at before, stops all audio processes and basically does the exact same thing as the /stopit command previously did. I think this is another good place to start looking. If you can find out what triggers a "soft reset" as lochdanan stated, then a command can be added to do such a thing.
Just some ideas to go by, I don't know where you stand with whatever external script you said you were working on, but honestly it seems like it may be something a little more simple than using something external to stop soundplay. But I'm not the mod writer, now am I? lol. Anyways, I will try to find out more info on this and will be taking on the challenge of creating a similar mod (with permissions to use this mod as a resource to go by, since I know nothing about this stuff yet) and if I find anything useful, I will pass it along.

Bleric saidHaha, I'm suprised someone else noticed that =)
Pre-2.4, the /stopit command was intentionally setup as a way of stopping all sounds. I didn't advertise it because all it did was restart the sound engine, and that caused a lot of people's computers to freeze for 2-3 seconds.
After 2.4, however, AddOns aren't allowed to restart the sound engine, so I just turned /stopit into a regular emote. And now there isn't an easy way to stop sound playback =\

Lochdanan saidSince 2.4 made it to where add-on's cannot reset the sound engine is there possibly a macro or some kind of text command that would allow for the sound engine to be reset? On a side note did the change that was made, make it to where sound can only be reset by an internal blizzard command? Sorry if that was confusing.

zenchou saidI don't feel like going through the code right now. What is the difference between this and LHCP?
A friend and I fixed the LHCP after the patch to work with 2.3.

Are there any extra sounds in this one or anything?

Bleric saidOh wow, that's great that you got LHCP working!
There aren't a ton of differences between gag and the original LHCP, other than the fact that Gag works and LHCP doesn't. Gag has a "ping" function that lets you see who else in your group has the mod installed, and there's a groupdisable function that lets you mute the entire raid or party if you're a group leader. A Fubar addon will be released within a week or two, hopefully.
As far as soundpacks go, yes, there are lots of new sounds. This mod contains about 100 new sounds that I've stolen myself, plus the Tchort, Classic, Nitros, and Firewall soundpacks from LHCP. The stuff I've added is at lines 1541-1681 and 2276-2597. Sorry it's so unorganized! =(
It's awesome to hear that there's other developers working on LHCP. You can contact me at jessepye at gmail, I'd love it if we could coordinate our efforts somehow.
