- About GroupCalendar
Important things to know
- Group Calendar 4 will not talk to version 3 or to betas of version 4. All guild/alliance members must upgrade before everyone will see and be able to sign up for all events again. Do not upgrade to 4.0 until your guild is ready to upgrade as a group. All release versions of GC4, including future releases, should work fine with any other release version of GC4.
- You MUST restart WoW to upgrade from GC3 to GC4. Group Calendar will warn you if you try to upgrade in-game with a reloadui and will disable itself until you restart WoW.
- Events you created will still be there when you upgrade, but all events from other players will be purged. They'll begin showing up again as those players upgrade to GC4.
- The User's Manual is no longed included in the addon and is available online instead. It hasn't been fully updated for GC4 yet, but the majority of it is still relevant. I'll try to get it updated completely soon, but it's a low priority for now.
About Group Calendar
Group Calendar allows guilds or groups of friends to share an in-game event calendar. The guild can post raid events and members can post events for dungeons they need to do quests for. Additionally, players can provide feedback to the event's sponsor saying that they will or won't be attending an event. Once installed Group Calendar replaces the minimap current time tooltip and sun & moon icon. This can be used to open the UI or it can be opened using the /calendar command. For instructions on how to set up Group Calendar for your guild or for your personal use, see the online user's manual

- FEATURE: Backups (both automatic and manual) of your event data to help recover if something goes wrong
- FEATURE: Circled dates and times for events you're attending are now color-coded: yellow for pending, green for confirmed and blue for standby
- FEATURE: Event templates remember up to the last five variations on an event type (you can schedule "Karazhan Alpha" and "Karazhan Beta" and it will remember your setting preferences for both)
- FEATURE: /cal slash command added -- same as /calendar, just shorter, and /calendar still works too
- FEATURE: /cal command now shows help by default (use "/cal show" to show the GUI)
- FEATURE: New '/cal history numdays' command to set the number of days to keep events

- FEATURE: /cal reset now resets only the current character, with a new parameter of "realm" to reset the databases for the realm
- FEATURE: Tradeskill reminder messages are smaller
- FEATURE: Brilliant Glass added to tradeskill cooldown reminders
- BUGFIX: Calendars for characters on the opposing faction will no longer be shared outside that faction
- BUGFIX: Default 12h/24h time and Sun/Mon start day can be set in localization files. Currently the German translation will use 24h and Monday by default, all others are still 12h and Sunday
- BUGFIX: Disconnecting the data channel works
- BUGFIX: Guild Rank setting works again in manual configuration
- BUGFIX: Subscribing to an event and later attempting to view the attendees list should no longer re-send the request

Vanaya saidOur guild is using v3.3.3 and having some issues, so we're looking at upgrading to 4.0.4 (or now 4.1). Everything should go smoothly in game, but we have something that while not a show stopper, will break with the upgrade. Our guild website has a user calendar on it, that shows what people are signed up for in Group Calendar. The way this is populated is evidently at some time in the past Mundocani (or someone else) had a calendar that would parse the GC saved variables and build the calendar for uploading to the website. According to my guild leader, GC stores dates and times in a "funky way" that he didn't want to deal with, but by using this calendar code from someone else it would parse the dates and times, and then he would use that data for his own calendar.
So I guess the question I have is, does anyone out there have a web-based calendar that pulls it's data from GC4.x saved variables for uploading to a guild website?

Mundocani saidThe database in 4.0 is unchanged from 3.x and should work just fine with existing parsers.
The dates aren't funky at all -- dates are simply stored as the number of days since January 1, 2000. Event times are stored as the number of minutes since midnight and signup times are stored as the number of seconds since midnight. All dates and times are stored in the server time zone.

Amethy saidThere is a web based mod - it is Group Calendar Web-Export; however, I have not personally tested it with version 4+ as our guy who set this up for me in the past had some issues in RL and now isnt doing it and I know nothing about php/Sql and do not have a site to host it on currently. But at the time we were using it, we have the Beta 4 version so i see no reason why it still would not work for you and highly recommend getting rid of V3 as V4 is much better.

vedir saidFeature Request.
Besides a level requirement for signups, it it possible to add a minimum rank requirement ? There are many level 70's in the guild but not many geared for the more challenging content. Ranks can be used nicely to set gear/xp thresholds.
Besides that, a very well thought out and executed add-on. Just like Outfitter, this could be one of those add-ons you just must have ! Great job !

Xemeten saidi have a question, is it possible to get this to show blizzard events (IE: Titan Calander) cuz atm that addon is almost the only reason i even HAVE titan, i love GC, so if i can get it to do that ill just toss Titan, & assuming it doesn't it may be something to keep in mind for the next version ;)

Mundocani saidAdding calendar overlays has been on my todo list for quite a while but it won't be any time soon. I plan to add modules for overlaying religious calendars, national/holiday calendars, and Blizzard event calendars. I have no idea when I'll be adding that feature though, sorry.

Aldina saidSo our guild just started using GC and so far we've had real issues. Some are seeing events while others are not. I think that may be due some bug issues you've already worked through. But by far, the biggest issue is with our shared channel. Some need to use it and others don't. Do we have to switch back and forth? Or, can those that use only the guild channel see the same guild only events that the shared players see? This is causing major stress. It seems that you can view guild only events either way, but I can't find anything to verify that.

Amethy saidIf you have some that need to use shared channel and some that dont, then you need for everyone to be on shared channel and the events that are for guild only - just check the box for guild only. I believe that everyone can see this event they just cannot signup for it. It creates a lot of stress for the syncing if you are constantly going from shared data channel to guild data channel and you will find that some of your information is lost. You can always do a test run to see who can see it and signup for it. We have done this in the past to see who is viewing the events and who isnt, and just have someone who isnt from the guild send you a note stating they can or cannot see the event so you know. Are you posting runs that you dont want others to see if they arent in the guild?
If you have events up that some cannot see, then you need to do a backup and restore and the events should repopulate.

Mundocani saidThat's correct -- all members have to be on the guild data channel or all members have to be on the same shared (named) channel. You can't mix and match channel settings within the guild or you won't be able to see each others events and attendance requests.
The Guild Only flag will hide your guild events from the other guilds on the shared channel, but only visually. Those other guilds could view the data channel or their stored copies of your calendar database and see the event. Not a big deal, just want you to understand that it just hides the event from people outside your guild for convenience, not for privacy.

Mundocani saidI'm currently buying a new house and moving into it, so development and support for GC and Outfitter will be slow at best for the next week or more. Please help each other out with questions when possible, thanks!

Mundocani saidYou're right, I grossly underestimated just how much effort a new house is. Repairmen, cleaning, installers, packing, renting U-Hauls, unpacking, coordinating construction, yikes. But the new house now has DirecTV and DSL (well, I'll find out later today if the DSL is actually running) so at least we can finally move in :D

Amethy saidOk upgraded to beta, however, I have other members Pending requests and Changes on an upcoming event. I am creator of the event and administrator of GC but it still says pending changes on the players and it shows Data channel is connected. Tried to go in and update their status but the status is blank
any advice?
I have not had this before - changes would always update for me

RavenPrime saidI have been having problems with events I created propagating throughout the guild. There is some kind of sync bug in 4.1b3 but I can't isolate it. Some ppl sync fine, some don't.
Try going to the last tab in GC and hit <Rebuild Database> many times. One time never seems to fix anything.

Amethy saidI switched back to the old one just to test it and the pending were still there, so I went back to beta. I always backup and restore when people lose the events and the events come back - people just freak out when they cant see it and think we cancelled the run. However, if the issues still remain then i may require all of guild to go back to 4.0.4 for a more stable GC if it is going to be awhile on the updates! (no irritation here as I know buying and moving is quite an ordeal) Gratz on the new house and move btw!! Hope it all goes smoothly

skarrde saidThe one thing I have noticed for the pending stuff is that it seems to be people who are putting themselves on Standby aka not sure if they will make it. These seem to fall under pending if they are not signed in when I am signed in. Other than that I have not noticed that I am missing any runs or not.

wsuhoey saidFeature Request:
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or thought of before, so I apologize if it has:
How about an extra field (similar to a event description field) that allows a URL to be pasted there, and clickable to event viewers that would invoke the default web browser, or alternatively copy/paste to clipboard, so that web sites like wowwiki etc can be posted there for information on the Raid Instance that the event pertains to.

Malkom saidWhy we can't configure more than 1 channel on the setup like GEM ? The skin and raids' management of this addon is better than GEM... but :
1) it's impossible to configure 2 or more channels, so you can't use in your guild AND in an alliance,
2) using the clock button on minimap is not a good idea for people using minimap's addon.

skarrde said1) There is the option in each run to mark guild only, while this will only allow you to have 2 "channels" it does allow you to have one for your "alliance" and one for the guild so to speak. Not sure if that helps much.
2) can also setup a macro or just type in the /cal show also if I remember correctly you can go into the keybindings interface and setup a key there if u like.
Hope that answers your questions.

raithkell saidI seem to be having some issues all of a sudden. A few people have installed 4.1b3 (they are not admins). I am the admin, and have 4.0.4.
I cannot see the events posted by our raid leader (also version 4.0.4.). When I look at the guild information I see this:
[GC4/C:GUILD,9/H:14]
[GC3/C:GUILD,9/H:14]
Sometimes it only shows one, but it seems something is wrong.
Help...
