- About Cartographer: Quest Objectives
YOU MUST GET THE LATEST VERSION OF CARTOGRAPHER FROM WOWACE FOR THIS MOD TO WORK. The latest version here on Curse is way out of date and will cause errors if you try to use it with this module. Download Cartographer at WowAce
This is a cartographer module that creates notes to mark the locations where you complete quest objectives.
Features
- Creates notes whenever a quest objective is "updated" which allows you to easily see where to go the next time you do the quest on a different character.
- The notes have different icons depending on the type of objective: "Monster" objectives are clashing swords, "Item" objectives are loot bags, etc. Note that the icon doesn't always make sense as Blizzard sometimes classifies objectives as "Monster" even though they have nothing to do with killing anything.
- Notes grow in size depending on how many of a particular objective you completed near a location based on how many total are needed. This helps when trying to pick a location to go to complete a quest: Bigger icons means it's probably a better location to go to.
- Quest objective notes are only shown when they are relevant to you; they will only show if you are on the quest and have not completed the particular objective.
- Your current objective progress is shown on the tooltips of the notes, and it's colored by completeness.
- Party support! If anyone in your party is running any Ace2 mod that embeds Quixote (QuestFu and this mod are two examples) then any notes you have for quests they are on will be shown on the map, even if you have completed the quest already.
- Also, if a party member gains progress on a quest objective, a note will be added at their current location. Some logic attempts to verify that they didn't get an update for an invalid reason, like someone trading them a quest item.
- Ability to "ban" a quest from creating notes. There are some quests that can be completed anywhere and creating notes for them would just pointlessly clutter up the map. You can simply right click on any of the notes for the quest and choose "Delete all notes for this objective forever" and you will no longer see any notes for that objective.
- Special note sharing features! You can "query" your guild or party for notes on the quests that you are on. If anyone in your guild has notes for any of your quests, they will be sent to you and added to your map.
- You can also query your guild or party for a complete database dump. This will send over every note for every quest they've ever added to their map.
- You can "ban" a particular player in the same way you can ban a quest from adding notes to your map. Simply right click on a note and choose "Delete all notes from this sender forever"
- Note that currently there is no feedback for when you receive notes; they just appear on your map. This will be improved in future versions.
- You can ONLY receive quest objective notes if you actually query for them. People can never send you quest objective notes manually, so you don't have to worry about filling up your map with notes if you don't want to.

kazren saidI have a little window type thing showing up with my party memebers names and under them "Does not have Quixote." How can I turn this off, I know its for quest notes, but I cant find the option to turn it off. I did however find the option to lock it in place..... right in the middle of the screen and cant find out how to unlock it so i can move it. Any suggestions?

licotto saidYou need to have the main CARTOGRAPHER mod first. Look at the very top of the description, they gave a link to find it. Try adding that in and see if it works for ya.

ankido saidWhen you pick up a quest it shows you on the map with an exclamation mark where you picked up the quest. Now the problem with this is that if the quest is turned in elswhere; why does the person who gave you the quest still have the "!" mark on their head?
This becomes very confusing and the mod needs more work. WHen the quest is complete, why not add an "?" on the map or minimap so the player knows where the quest is turned in. Sorry, this mod is far from being complete.
Metamap ftw...

Zenja saidI use this to track Quest NPC's on my map, but I really wish I could turn off the icons that show up on my MINIMAP.
It makes it so I can't see the little gold dot on my minimap when I'm done with a quest.

Darkar634 saidThis mod has been continued on the ace website, check it out there if you're interested. They really need a lot more people to increase the quest database sizes, especially alliance.

sinepi saidA month has passed without any activity here... I don't play anymore (for a while), but I thought I was handing the project over to a developer more active than me. I could go on some friends' accounts to finish my work, however - if it proves necessary. OverloadUT, is something of a rather permanent nature preventing you from continuing the development?

sid_67 saidI've started a database sharing thread on the wowace forums: http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=5092.0
As I collect and compile them, I will post updates. Please share your data file for the cause. I've written an importer script I will be using to avoid duplicates, so no worries on that score.
sinepi: I, personally, would rather not see the collaboration. I think choice is good and I hate when so many features get thrown into an addon to support EVERYONE. Part of the appeal of Ace2 (and Cartographer & Fubar in particular) is that is modular and different authors can offer different flavors on similar functionality.

Zeromax saidOk, i downloaded all the newest files, and so far no error messages. But right not i can't see any marks on my Cartographer map for quest objectives. Is there an import quest locations tab or so? Or do i need to do a quest for it to store it in the data - base?
Also i just read that you can querry guilds / players for their complete quest notes. So would it be possible to make a new character on a different realm if you know someone with this addon, so they can send you their notes?
If this is possible it would be nice if someone with this addon tells me their character name and realm name so i can quickly import your quest data :)
Thanks very much.

OverloadUT saidYes, you have to do quests to get them stored in the database. I am thinking about the possibility of releasing partially populated databases. Maybe I'll release packs for different zones or something.
Yes, you definitely could create a character on another server, join a party with someone, and request a full database dump. Keep in mind that there is currently no way to tell when a dump is complete, and in my test cases with a medium sized database it took over 45 seconds to send everything. Just be sure to give it enough time before you log out. :)
My characters are all on the "Eitrigg" server. You can do a "/who edibles" to see everyone in my guild. I am "Broccoli" "Nectar" "Garlic" "Cauliflower" or "Gelatin" - I'd be happy to let you do a DB transfer.

sinepi saidHello, I'm the author of QuestAreas over here: http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/files/details/6386/questareas - perhaps we could work together on this? So as not to compete where there's nothing to compete about :)

OverloadUT saidInteresting... I actually didn't know Quest Areas existed when I began work on my mod and not until after I released the second version (on wowace) did I find yours. I figured all Cartographer plugins would be on the wowace SVN. :P
Honestly I'm not sure what we could do to work together. I agree there's no need for competition per se, but I'm not sure how collaboration would work. I've never been a joint coder kind of guy... what were you thinking?

sinepi saidWell. Your addon is Cartographer-only, my addon has its own database of coordinates only per-request exported to Cartographer - so my addon supports MapNotes and MetaMap as well; I think potential users of your addon might ask for that functionality as well at some point. Also, my addon has a "quest browser" frame, displaying details of quests in the database in text form. You, in turn, have a working sharing mechanism, which I'd have to yet work on in the case of my addon - and you record locations of objectives completed by party members, which is nice and I didn't even think about it :)
I was thinking we might try to just merge the two addons. The result would be a multiple-map-supporting, sharing-enabled addon. Naturally, this would require one of the addons to serve as the "core" which would be seriously reworked, to allow for semi-direct incorporating of the features of the other - it'd be needed to decide which of the addons has a stronger "core" and which is more feature-based. Then the final result would be named "Quest Objectives" (I like your name better :P) and would, colloquially speaking, pwn. :D
If you're interested in something like that, it'd be better if we communicated using some better medium than these comments... IRC, perhaps? I'm on IRCnet as Mackowaty, or on Freenode as Tentacled. Or ICQ, mine is 3146019, though I'd need to know who to authorize as I've set it to ignore strangers.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

OverloadUT saidYour version of Cartographer is way too old. I just checked and it looks like the problem is the version here on Curse is way out of date. Get the latest version of Cartographer from WowAce: http://files.wowace.com/
I'll add a note in the description here.
