- About Omen Threat Meter
Omen is a threat meter. Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen attempts to do is provide reasonably accurate estimates of your group's relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you're in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you're next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it's useful for any multi-player situation.
Omen is an interface for the Threat-2.0 library, and comed bundled with it.
The latest updates are always available at files.wowace.com, or through the WowAceUpdater.
- Do other people need Omen installed for it to work?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: kinda
To get fully accurate data, your groupmates must have Threat-2.0 (or an addon that uses it) installed and running. Any addon that uses Threat-2.0 will satisfy this requirement and will provide full and accurate threat data to Omen.
If you or your groupmates have any of these addons installed, or have Threat-2.0 installed as a standalone, then they are capable of sending and receiving threat data.
Please note that unlike Threat-1.0, Threat-2.0 DOES NOT have KLH Threat Meter interoperability.
- Do I need to install Threat-2.0 to use Omen?
No. Threat-2.0 comes bundled with Omen as an embedded library. You only need to install Threat-2.0 if you want to provide your group with threat information without a GUI. As a user, you can think of Threat-2.0 as a stripped down tank version of Omen.
- How does Omen handle multiple targets with the same name?
Joyous news! Thanks to upgrades Blizzard made in 2.4, Omen can now tell every mob apart. You should have accurate threat information for every mob you engage, regardless of its name.
- What else has changed?
- Omen has a number of display modes now. You have:
- The "Single Target" mode. This is your standard threat meter mode.
- The "AOE" mode. This shows your relative threat on all targets you are in combat with. Useful for seeing your relative threat on multiple targets.
- The "Overview" mode. Shows people who are currently high on threat on any enemy you're in combat with.
- The "Healer/Tank" mode. Shows each of your tanks' targets (pulled from oRA2 or the Blizzard tank settings) and their threat lists.
- Single-bar customization is not in yet. This is coming.
- Pullout bars are not implemented yet. This is coming.
- Omen has a number of display modes now. You have:
- Where do a report a bug?
(todo, for now, use the message board here, the wowace forums or #wowace on irc.freenode.net)
- Where do I make a feature request?
(todo, for now, use the message board here, the wowace forums or #wowace on irc.freenode.net)

Nelfish saidSuggestion: Add the raid icons to the threat bars in Omen.
The new Omen multiple mob modes seem useful, but in practice are confusing because often mobs have long similar (or identitical) names.
It would be much easier to judge multiple mob threat at a glance if the bars were marked with the raid icons. That way, if I'm tanking 3 mobs, I can keep an eye on the threat on my 3 (e.g. skull, x, star) and whack the star a bit if I see the healer catching up to me on star, etc.

whatyouare saidOmen Issues: Resets certain option settings each time I log in. Border/Background transparency resets to 100% - it sets itself on aoe mode or something, not single target mode as I time after time set it to. Though it is 'on' it doesn't actually work, I have to go in, make the changes noted above, and then hit 'show test bars' before the actuall addon will work when in an instance.
Not sure why I'd have to show test bars for the actual combat bars to show during a fight, but I do. Omen is resetting itself to these things each time I log out and back in.

Azza2 saidI though I'd do some testing with this, and it looks like the erratic behaviour being described here is being caused by your guildmates using wowace's beta versions of Omen (even when you're not in a raid!). I believe there is an addons channel in the guild and data is transmitted and causing weird behaviour with your own Omen, but would need confirmation on this. I have a scheduled script backing up my addons and configs daily, and I tried a month old omen.lua savedvariable that was known to work good, so I loaded that up but still had Omen switching to healer mode on logon. So, I went to install the wowace latest beta just to see what would happen, and it stayed on single mode view this time. The solution? force your guildmates to start using the stable version here on Curse. I'd still like to test more anyway, e.g. stable omen with no other addons running etc and see if it switches to healer mode

Gumurak saidAntiarc, there have been issues lately that I have not been able to figure out. Last night during kara. Mobs were ripping off of me even thou I was top of the threat list. After the target leaves me and kills someone it returns to me. And then the threat shows a spike of that person over my threat. Which they showed at the bottom of the threat list when it happened. Some folks are not having threat show for several minutes into the fight. And then it just magically starts showing threat.
We've had no errors, And have tried the tank (me) holding the mob with threat for 30k before having the group attack. Same results.

dsaxton33 saidseriously needs the bugs worked out of it, every time i get into an instance and try to move it around, it sticks on the mouse cursor, making it impossible to click anything, only solution to fix it is to logout and in again. so i switched to diamond threat meter since friends like it so much better.

Gumurak saidDiamond threat meter is an omen coded ripoff bloated piece of junk. The only difference between it an omen is that diamond doesnt release its beta versions to the public.

Gumurak saidTry reading the threads here rather than making a new one. Wowace = beta. Curse = stable. If you download from wowace you are downloading a beta version. Then people complain about bugs.

watchout saidHowever, the version thingy of Omen does not distinguish between beta releases and stable releases so users only see that their version is outdated and not that they're perfectly fine with the latest stable release.

Gumurak saidThis is true. The other thing is whispering older clients. It will whisper everyone that does not have the same version, above or below you. So people with latest version start asking wtf when they get out of date whispers. Basically pick the stable version and everyone should be on it. Anyone above or below the current running version gives false positives on threat. IE tanks complaining that they are ontop of the threat list, yet the mob isnt on them. Because threat was miscalculated by version mismatch.

Gumurak saidTypically I answer questions on here. But considering the circumstances, I'm hoping the author may reply. Is it possible to have an option to clear threat? Cyrrently I notice threat sticks sometimes when you die. The other night on gruuls, it was hard to gauge threat. Because a pets threat was still registered. My 20k threat to his 100k something.

whatyouare saidSame problem here. WTF? I see there was no reply to your thread about this happening. Can we assume this addon is dead? I don't see any replies to the various bugs people are coming across. Guess I'll try KTM again.

Azza2 saidI'm getting this problem too for a few days now, I play a tank and always have it in Single Mode view with the Curse version of Omen I've had installed for a month. It keeps going into multimob view or something, and at one point there was this wierdness of a hunter's mark icon appearing in Omen. I have to go into the options, select Single mode view, show test bars, then it works as how it should again. (and repeat those steps again everytime I log in) Any idea's what's causing this?

Makiba saidWeird, I was fine for weeks but this just started happening to me, too. Maybe a funny interaction with other raid members who have newer versions from wowace?
